The following is based on a true story.
buyer: hey, rmr me, :) i bought the WWWR book from u, ur book has got highlight and messy writings, y didn't u tell me? i'm damn pissed ah, u said ur book is brand new, u can't rmr tat u hav written on it is it.. how am i to resell my book at a reasonable price like tat.. i can't believe tis..
(no reply)
buyer: Hello, tis is regarding the book still.. i'm really upset now, couldn't u at least give an explanation? like u're tight for money ot it's not yours
seller: hi sorry i was sleeping.. if u want u can sell it back to me.. same price 35.. about the writings they are in pencil so i thought it was ok.
seller: I be in school again.. today at 1.. bring the book and i will buy it back
buyer: Point is u're selling above the book's value, it's only an $8.30 diff n it's not jus a few pages, u should tell me n let me judge, i was totally shocked when i found out, i checked only the first few chaps then, i didn't know brand new has such a meaning.. anyway, i'm sorry we couldn't make a deal, c u today
seller: ok. sorry i din erase the pencil markings. once i do that.. i think i can sell the book at that price.. anyway a lot of people want to buy the book.. same place at 1?
buyer: Ok
If at this point you still don't get it, let me explain. The cost price of the book is $43.30. I'm buying a second-hand book from this guy at $35. I thought even though
the price is too high it's still not bad if I can save a few bucks. After all, the book is not in much different condition from the brand new one.
Not in the least did I expect to see highlights and pencil markings. I'm not an unreasonable person. It's not just "some pencil markings" that I'm unhappy over. It's quite some writings there, spans over 4 chapters and almost on every page, and it's not one or two words. It's also messy and with arrows all over the place. And of course he can sell the book at the same price once he erase the markings. I bought the book from him didn't I.
Anyway, why didn't he offer to erase the pencil markings for me. I'm sure I'll have to pay more than $8.30 for anyone to do the job. So I might as well buy a real brand new one. And why didn't he tell me about it if he thinks it's alright.
seller: hey just like to say sorry for any distress caused.. to me the book is ok but it's alright if u felt otherwise :_)
buyer: It's ok.. :)
Yup, I'm a nice person after all. I should have replied "happy erasing".

Thursday, January 19, 2006Just the other day I was looking through some video clips of Leela James. Man, I like her version of Don't speak. It's a completely different feel from No Doubt's. And as I was glancing through a very short reviews by an anonymous person, I just had to take a second look. I thought it said " talk abt a f***ing good song" but something wasn't quite right and on reading slower I realised it was "talk abt f***ing a good song". Haha, funny how just by switching one word, the sentence can mean a totally different thing.
I don't usually like language. I mean, I prefer dealing with numbers to words sometimes. And I like how numerical equations can be played around with. So I get excited when words can be played around just like numerical equations. Like the sentence above, you can have
a good f***ing song
a f***ing good song
f***ing a good song
I think the word f*** is probably one of the most useful in English dictionary. It can be used to mean many different things and in various situations too. Not that I encourage anyone to use the word. I am just a bit fascinated by the word at the moment. :)

Monday, January 09, 2006I've been tagged! :) hehe.. since I have time to do this still I think I'll just go ahead lah
Here's the rules:
First, post 5 random/weird stuffs about yourself.
Second, write a list of 5 fellow bloggers whom you want to do the same.
Next, visit their blogs and tell them they've been tagged and ask them to read the rules in your blogs.
Okay.
1. I can just suddenly sing 'Que Sera Sera' anytime anywhere.
2. My face turns red when I'm embarrassed or when I think I'm being the centre of unwanted attention.
3. I realise I still like to play arcade.
4. I can't decide whether I'm girly or tomboy.
5. I can sleep a lot. Yes, a lot.

Saturday, January 07, 2006I'm back for 2 days now. Spend most of my time unpacking and tidying up my room. My cabinets are all full of books and notes from previous semester. I wonder if it's 'safe' to throw them all away. What if I happened to need to refer to them in the future? But then again, I most probably won't. I still keep some textbooks from upper secondary cause I thought someday I might need to refer to them but so far I haven't. Sigh, how can a person need to use so many books and notes in his lifetime? No wonder there's land pollution.
New semester starts in 2 days. Okay, this time they're not so kind to us anymore. First week there'll be tutorial and by second week there'll be one assignment due. I still can't decide whether I should take 5 or 6 modules. It's so hard to choose the sixth module to take. All the modules I'm interested in either has timetable clash or exam date clash with the other 5. I don't want to end up taking a module just because it's the only one that fits into my schedule.
Anyway, Medan has been fun. I ate all the food I had been drooling over, read the comics I've been longing to and meet up with all my cousins whom I've missed. My have they all grown up. So pretty and handsome. Okay, photos coming up!!
