I have been doing quite a bit of kitchen work these few days. Yesterday I reached home at 7 plus (cos lecture ended at 6) to a sick sister and absent parents. But dinner has to be fixed so I gotta cook some istant soup, heat up some dishes left over from lunch then baked some potato wedges. After dinner I still gotta wash up while my brother wipe the clean plates. Not to mention cleaning up the kitchen and throw the rubbish out. Only after 9.30 then I have time to do my own stuffs.
Sigh, why can't the University be beside my house?
Anyway, I think the most underpaid profesion in the world is housewife. How come there are so many things to do to manage a house?

Monday, January 10, 2005Today is my sister's 23rd birthday. She's already 23 can you believe it.. with a face like that, haha.. I guess it's good to look younger than your age.
Anyway, first day of school today. First lesson was chinese. a1 a2 a3 a4. :P Hopefully I can learn something useful out of this module.
Oh, gotta get up early at 5 o'clock today to wake my mum's friend's son. His name is Robin. And he's staying with us from this year onwards. Kinda like a homestay thing, of course he has to pay to stay. He's in P4 but already 12, so he's older than his classmates by 2 years, like me.
And then I have to prepare breakfast for him and wait with him for his school bus to come. Sigh, feel like a mother already.
Was so so sleepy when I got home but has to help out cos we have no maid since the latest one left. My previous maid who has worked for us for 3 years wanted to go back to her kampong. After her my house has changed a total of 3 maids. Here's the details:
Maid #1: After my kakak left (I called my maid kakak which means sister in bahasa), we got this one. She's married with no kid. My mum thought that since she's a housewife she should know how to do household chores. Wrong. Okay, considering how laid-back kampong life is, maybe we shouldn't expect so much from her. [Whatever happens to training!!] But the thing that got her sacked was that she would be a dangerous maid to keep. She pined over her husband everyday, worried that her husband who was working without permit in Malaysia would get caught. My mum caught her "stoning" when she's ironing, with the iron on the clothes, and sent her packing soon after more incidents.
Maid #2: This one spelt disaster. On the necessary document it said there that she is 21 years old. She's actually only 17. Never mind that she doesn't cook. But she doesn't know a great deal of other things as well. She doesn't know how to cut fruits for a first. And she put ginger on rendang. She can't iron properly, don't know how to use washing machines, and she's very very forgetful. We told her not to mix table cloths with cloths used for moping floor when washing, and she did just that within 3 hours. My mum screamed when she attemped to use floor cloth to wipe the dining table. And I don't know whether to laugh or cry. After less than 3 weeks my mum sent her packing too.
Maid #3: At last. Someone with experiences. Although she had a temper and packed her bags after the first scolding (My mum scolds a lot), we managed to talk her out of it. She has a great sense of responsibilities. She'd try to do her jobs on her own and often refused our help. But she's also 3 months pregnant. I don't know what happened to her because she didn't want to say anything. One fine day she just requested to leave and we had no choice but to send her back to the agency. She's very poor thing actually. She worked for 7 months for her previous employee, just enough to clear her debts to the agency, before she was suddenly sent back. We got her as a transfer maid. She's supposed to have received her first salary on the 8th month, but because she got transferred she had to pay her agency another two months worth of salary. Then she only worked for us for 10 days. Imagine, she travelled all the way to Singapore to work as maid, probably spent altogether about 8 months here without pay. Now she's going back to her homeland without money, but an extra mouth to feed. (She threatened to suicide if she was not sent back) Sigh. She looked like a nice girl. I hope whoever did that to her will get it worse.
Okay okay, this is supposed to be a happy post. Happy Birthday ce!! Must sayang me more now that you're older and more mature already. :)

Friday, January 07, 20052 hours ago I saw a beetle hanging on the sofa cushion at my house. My first thought was to get rid of it. Don't get me wrong. I'm not afraid of beetle because of the harm it brings (if any). I'm afraid simply because it can fly, at me. And I'm definitely not some psycho who just has to kill any living insects in sight.
Then I recalled the conversation between me and my dear last night on the phone on how he will feel guilty when he killed an insect. So I decided not to kill this one. It's quite harmless at its position on the sofa anyway. Just that the sofa was quite near my room and it's not good if it flies to my room.
Well, I just have to remove it
I used a paper bag to capture the beetle. And walk over to the window I did, with a smile on my face thinking that I've done a good deed today. But!! The beetle made a U-turn the moment it was out of the paper bag, flying at high speed and equally high determination towards the house, and chased after me. So off I ran towards my room like a little kid. I shouldn't have. Because now the beetle is IN my room... And I sleep on the top bunk (I share a bunk bed with my sis, I sleep on the top bed cos my sis is afraid to climb up, haha.. and the bed actually has a proper step, so technically you don't have to climb, but just go up the steps)
When I saw the beetle on my curtain, I used a book to hit at it, hard. Cos I was determined to kill it after the way it repaid my kindness and thoughtfulness. But the beetle can't be found anywhere till now, neither the living one nor its body. It just disappears. I'm sure it's not dead yet because the curtain is clean (means no blood seen on its white form), and the book is also clean. The last time I saw it on the curtain it was half a metre away from my bed.
Oh no oh no, beetle beetle please go away
I don't need your goodnight kiss on bed
Just as long as you stay away
Far you go and don't leave a trace
